What is infrared?

Infrared radiation is electromagnetic radiation of a wavelength just next to the visible light.  Each object of a temperature above the absolute 0 (-273 °C) emits this infrared radiation.

Thermal radiation wavelength vs visible light

… and the infrared thermography?

Infrared thermography is science which uses the infrared radiation in measuring the surface temperature of an object from a distance and without contact.  The ‘normal’ photography uses visible light to create an image, the thermography creates an image using the heat emitted by the target.

The infrared thermography (or thermal imaging) has been used already for over forty years in the industry.  The advances of the technology have made the benefits of the thermography available to everybody.
